Cast video to NVIDIA Shield from PC
The NVIDIA Shield is the most capable box most people own, and it takes video from AIX Player directly — often with no conversion needed at all.
Supported videos from your PC can be cast to NVIDIA Shield, up to 4K HDR where the source, PC, network and TV support it, with selected subtitles rendered on screen. AIX Player converts unsupported parts while streaming when needed.
Which files can I cast?
The Shield is the rare device that reads almost everything itself, so most files pass straight through untouched. MKV, MP4, MOV, AVI, WMV, TS, M2TS and WebM all cast to it, and usually with nothing altered on the way.
How does it connect to your NVIDIA Shield?
AIX Player pairs with the Shield and sends the file. When the Shield supports the video and audio directly, the stream can pass through without video conversion.
How do I cast it? Three steps
In AIX Player 3.0.6, Jellyfin, Emby and Plex videos play on your PC; casting media-server videos is not supported. Network shares (SMB / NAS) can be browsed and played on your PC for free, with no time limit. These casting steps are for supported local files. Read about media servers.

Press cast and choose your NVIDIA Shield
AIX Player scans the network and lists what it finds by name. When more than one device could take the film, it marks the one it ranks highest for that television.

Sit down — your PC is the remote
Play, pause, seek, change volume, switch subtitle or audio track and disconnect, all from the AIX Player window. Nothing is mirrored, so you can carry on using the PC.
Devices appear on their own — nothing to pair by hand, nothing to type in.
Will my subtitles show on the TV?
Even the Shield cannot see a subtitle file that lives on your PC, because it was never part of the video. That one limitation applies to every device.
AIX Player renders the subtitles into the picture before sending it, so they arrive with the film — and since the Shield rarely needs the video converted, you get subtitles without any quality cost at all.
What if my TV refuses the file?
Shield models support a broad range of formats, so compatible files can often be sent without video conversion. Other files are converted while streaming.

Does the Shield need any conversion when casting?
Often none. When the Shield supports the file directly, AIX Player can send it without video conversion, preserving the source picture path.
Is the Shield good for high-bitrate 4K remuxes?
Compatible models support high-bitrate 4K. A wired connection can reduce network-related interruptions, but results depend on the file, network and display.
Do I need any app installed on the Shield?
No. AIX Player casts to it directly. There is nothing to set up or sign into on the Shield itself.
Will HDR reach the Shield intact?
Yes. HDR and 10-bit pass through where your display supports them, rather than being tone-mapped down on the way.
