Cast video to Android TV from PC
A compatible Android TV device with Google Cast can receive supported videos from AIX Player.
Supported videos from your PC can be cast to Android TV, up to 4K HDR where the source, PC, network and TV support it, with selected subtitles rendered on screen. AIX Player converts unsupported parts while streaming when needed.

Playback depends on the file and Android TV model. AIX can send compatible files directly or convert unsupported parts while streaming.
How does it connect to your Android TV?
AIX Player reaches Android TV through the Cast protocol built into the system. Nothing is side-loaded onto the television and no companion app is needed — the set simply appears in the cast list.
What to expect on an Android TV
- How it plays: as a Google Cast device. Cast is part of the system, so there is nothing to install.
- Plays directly: depends on the model. For the Chromecast and Google TV models in AIX Player’s device catalogue: H.264, HEVC, VP8, VP9 and AV1 video, up to 2160p (4K) at 60 frames per second.
- HDR formats: HDR10, HDR10+, HLG and DV HDR for those catalogue models; on your Android TV, the formats it supports.
- HDR casting uses AIX Pro or the casting trial: HDR stays HDR on a compatible direct-play route; converted video is SDR.
- Sound: a file the TV plays directly keeps its own soundtrack; every stream AIX Player converts carries AAC sound.
- Subtitles: the subtitle you choose in AIX Player shows on the TV.
- Casting allowance: the free app includes 60 casting minutes in total, once, not per session; AIX Pro makes casting unlimited.

How do I cast it? Three steps
Jellyfin, Emby and Plex videos play on your PC; casting media-server videos is not supported. Network shares can be browsed freely; SDR playback is unlimited, while HDR uses its trial or AIX Pro. These casting steps are for supported local files. Read about media servers.

Open the video and set it up how you want it
Open it from your PC’s drive or a USB or SD drive, then pick the audio track and choose the subtitle. The soundtrack and subtitle you choose are the ones the TV gets.

Press cast and choose your Android TV
AIX Player scans the network and lists what it finds by name. When one television offers several supported protocols, AIX ranks the available routes; Google Cast has priority when detected.

Sit down — your PC is the remote
Use the playback controls available for the selected TV and route; some audio or subtitle changes require a new cast. Nothing is mirrored, so you can carry on using the PC.

Will my subtitles show on the TV?
A separate subtitle must be delivered to the receiver along with the video; AIX handles supported subtitle delivery.
AIX Player takes care of it. Choose a subtitle in the player, a track inside the video or a separate file you added, and that subtitle shows on the Android TV. Some subtitle changes work during playback; tracks that need to be drawn into the video can require a new cast. The subtitles when casting guide has the details.
What if my TV refuses the file?
File support varies by Android TV model. AIX Player asks yours what it can handle before sending anything, then quietly converts whatever falls short as the film plays.

Do I need to install anything on my Android TV?
No. Nothing is side-loaded onto the television and no companion app is required. Cast is already part of the system on most Android TV sets and boxes.
My Android TV box is wired and my PC is on Wi-Fi. Will it work?
Yes. Mixed wired and wireless is fine as long as both sit on the same network. In fact a wired box is the more stable arrangement for large 4K files.
Why does 4K stutter on an older Android TV box?
Check network strength and streaming quality, and try Ethernet where available; decoding and the source can also cause stutter.
Can I cast a whole playlist?
Yes. A playlist casts the same way a single film does, playing straight through in the order you set.
Do subtitles work when casting to Android TV?
Yes, for supported subtitle formats. The subtitle you choose in AIX Player shows on the TV, including a separate subtitle file you added.
