Cast video to Android TV from PC

Most Android TV sets and boxes carry Cast as standard, which makes them one of the easiest things in the house to send a film to.

Whatever is on your PC goes on the television, in full 4K HDR, with your subtitles on screen. You do not need to know what is inside your files, convert anything beforehand or change a single setting. Press cast, pick your Android TV, sit down.

Which files can I cast?

Android TV boxes vary enormously in what they can open on their own — a five-year-old box and a new set are not comparable. AIX Player removes the question by decoding on the PC first, so MKV, MP4, MOV, AVI, WMV, TS, M2TS and WebM all behave identically.

How does it connect to your Android TV?

AIX Player reaches Android TV through the Cast protocol built into the system. Nothing is side-loaded onto the television and no companion app is needed — the set simply appears in the cast list.

How do I cast it? Three steps

  1. Open the video and set it up how you want it

Pick the audio track, choose the subtitles and style them for a room rather than a laptop. Everything you set now travels with the picture.

  2. Press cast and choose your Android TV

AIX Player scans the network and lists what it finds by name. When more than one device could take the film, it marks the one it ranks highest for that television.

  3. Sit down — your PC is the remote

Play, pause, seek, change volume, switch subtitle or audio track and disconnect, all from the AIX Player window. Nothing is mirrored, so you can carry on using the PC.

Devices appear on their own — nothing to pair by hand, nothing to type in.

Will my subtitles show on the TV?

Subtitle handling is where Android TV boxes differ most from each other. A separate subtitle file is invisible to all of them, because it was never inside the video to begin with.

AIX Player renders the subtitles into the picture before it leaves your PC, which levels the field: the oldest box in the house shows them exactly as the newest one does.

What if my TV refuses the file?

Older Android TV boxes are the fussiest devices in most homes about what they will accept. AIX Player asks yours what it can handle before sending anything, then quietly converts whatever falls short as the film plays.

Android TV casting questions

Do I need to install anything on my Android TV?

No. Nothing is side-loaded onto the television and no companion app is required. Cast is already part of the system on most Android TV sets and boxes.

My Android TV box is wired and my PC is on Wi-Fi. Will it work?

Yes. Mixed wired and wireless is fine as long as both sit on the same network. In fact a wired box is the more stable arrangement for large 4K files.

Why does 4K stutter on an older Android TV box?

Its Wi-Fi is the limit. First-generation boxes on a weak signal cannot keep up with high-bitrate 4K. An Ethernet cable to the box fixes it outright.

Can I cast a whole playlist?

Yes. A playlist casts the same way a single film does, playing straight through in the order you set.

Does my subtitle styling carry over to the TV?

Yes, exactly as you set it. Size, colour, outline and backing box are drawn into the picture before it leaves your PC, so the television shows the styling you chose rather than its own defaults.

Casting to something else?

The same files, the same three steps and the same subtitles reach every TV family AIX Player supports — each paired through its own protocol rather than a generic fallback.
