AIX Player settings: a tour of the Windows controls
Published 28 October 2026 · 9 min read
AIX Player provides defaults you can adjust in Settings. When you do, it helps to know what is there. Settings has seven tabs: General, Library, Video, Audio, Subtitle, Casting and About. Here are the main Windows controls, using their English labels.
Select Settings in the sidebar, then use the Search settings box at the top. Search results locate the matching setting within the page. Rows marked AIX Pro need a Pro plan; everything else is in the free app.
General: language, theme and how playback behaves
- Language: follows Windows by default. Restart now applies a changed selection from the 17 languages.
- Theme: light, dark, or follow Windows.
- Playback starts: “Where a video opens — from the start or where you left off”. Clear all resume positions forgets saved resume points while keeping watch history.
- When a video ends: choose Play next, Repeat one, Repeat all or Stop.
- Background audio (AIX Pro): “Keep playing audio when the window is minimized”.
- Media keys: “Control playback with keyboard media keys”. On by default.
- Player gestures: “Gesture controls on the video”, the centre tap and double-tap described in gesture controls.
- Keyboard Shortcuts: the keys the player answers to; the shortcuts guide lists them all.
- Precise seek (AIX Pro): seeking lands on the exact frame.
Library: the gallery and its upkeep
- All videos view: “How the full gallery is displayed”.
- Rescan media library: “Re-indexes every media folder”, for when files were added or moved outside the app.
- Clear thumbnail cache: “Frees space · rebuilds on demand”.
- Clear watch history: “Removes resume points and recents”.
- Clear Library Database removes registered library folders, user playlists and associated indexed history and bookmarks; it keeps the protected Default playlist, original videos and saved server/share connections in place.
How to build and sort the library itself: video library.
Video: decoding, picture and snapshots
- Hardware decode: “Use the GPU to decode video, or fall back to the CPU”. On by default; turning it off is the first test when a picture misbehaves. See hardware acceleration.
- Picture fit and Rotation / flip: how the picture fills the window, and turning or mirroring it.
- Brightness and Contrast: free.
- Saturation, Gamma and Hue (AIX Pro).
- Video mode / Picture preset (AIX Pro): ready-made looks such as Cinema, Bright room, Dark room, Animation, Outdoor sports and Video games.
- Deband: “Smooth out colour banding in gradients”. Deinterlace: for interlaced video, automatic by default. Both free.
- HDR tone-mapping strength (AIX Pro): “How strongly HDR is mapped onto an SDR display”.
- Snapshots: “Save a still frame from the player (camera button or S)”. Choose the Image format, “PNG (lossless) or JPG (smaller)”, and the save location (Change… or Reset to default folder).
- Reset Video Settings puts this tab back to its defaults.
What each picture control does on screen: picture controls.
Audio: boost, equalizer and languages
- Audio channel / downmix: “How multi-channel audio is routed to your speakers”. Surround speakers get surround sound; stereo gets a downmix.
- Audio boost: “Raise the volume ceiling to Max for quiet sources”, up to 200 %. Free.
- Auto volume (AIX Pro): “Even out loud and quiet passages”. It starts Off.
- Dialogue boost (AIX Pro): “Lift speech so dialogue is clearer over music and effects”.
- Graphic Equalizer: ten bands from 31 Hz to 16 kHz, Audio modes for presets (“Apply a ready-made equalizer curve”), Flatten and Reset equalizer. Free.
- Preferred audio language: “Auto-select this track when a file offers it”.
- Playback speed sets the saved speed used when videos open; set it back to 1× for normal playback.
More on the sound side: audio boost, equalizer and dialogue boost.
Subtitle: what shows and how it looks
- Show subtitles has the caption “Enable captions by default”; it is one switch.
- Preferred subtitle language: picks your language when a file offers it.
- Text Size, Bold text (“Heavier weight for readability”) and Caption color (“High-luminance colors, legible from across the room”).
- Outline (“Dark edge around each glyph”), Drop shadow (“Soft shadow beneath the text”) and Background box (“Solid panel behind the text”).
- Vertical position: “How high captions sit from the bottom of the screen”.
- Subtitle style override (for advanced users): on by default, so your style also applies to ASS and SSA files; switch it off to keep a file’s own styling.
- Secondary subtitles (AIX Pro): a second track at the same time, see dual subtitles.
Step by step: subtitle size, colour and outline.
Casting: how video reaches the TV
- Streaming quality: “How video is sent to your TV”. Lower it if a cast stutters on weak Wi-Fi.
- Remember last device: “Show a one-tap reconnect shortcut”.
- Auto-reconnect on launch: “Reconnect to the last TV when the app opens”.
- Preferred audio language and Preferred subtitle language for casting, separate from the ones for the PC.
Casting itself is part of AIX Pro, with a free allowance in the free app. When a cast misbehaves, start with the casting troubleshooting guide.
About: privacy and a fresh start
- Send diagnostics: optional, and yours to switch off. The Privacy policy row opens the policy; it is also on this site.
- Open-source licenses: the components the app is built with.
- Reset All Settings restores preferences while keeping your library, saved connections and original videos; used free allowances are not reset.
Where to start
If you only change three things, make them Language (General), Preferred subtitle language (Subtitle) and Text Size (Subtitle). Then leave the rest until a film asks for it. The player screen tour covers the controls you use while a video plays.
Set it once. Then just watch.
Seven Settings tabs, a search box, and sensible defaults for everything you never change.
