A tour of the AIX Player screen, control by control

Published 28 October 2026 · 7 min read

Open a video in AIX Player and the screen is the film, with the controls around it. This tour goes through what those controls do, group by group, with the key that does the same job, so you can find any of them in the dark.

Play, pause and move through the film

  • Play and pause. The play button, Space, or a tap in the centre of the video. See gesture controls.
  • The timeline. Shows playback position and lets you seek within the available range. Dragging seeks as you move, so the video can update before release; hovering shows a timestamp, without a separate thumbnail preview. For small, exact steps, ← and → go back or forward 10 seconds.
  • Chapters. Films that carry chapters let you jump between them; Page Up and Page Down do it from the keyboard. Resume and bookmarks covers chapters, bookmarks and where a video restarts.
  • Next and previous video. N and P move through the queue. Shuffle and Repeat are there too, for playlists you want in a different order or on a loop.
  • With Precise seek switched on in Settings (AIX Pro), a jump lands on the exact frame, for when the nearest second is not close enough.

Sound

  • Volume and mute. ↑ and ↓ change the volume; M mutes.
  • Audio track. Films often carry several soundtracks: other languages, a commentary, a stereo and a surround mix. Choose one from the audio menu, or press A or B to step through them.
  • Audio boost raises the ceiling up to 200 % for quiet files, and the 10-band equalizer with presets shapes the sound. Both are free.
  • Auto volume evens out loud and quiet passages and dialogue boost lifts speech over music and effects; both are AIX Pro. An external audio track from a separate file is AIX Pro too. More on all of it: audio boost and auto volume.
  • Audio only. Ctrl+D plays the sound without the picture.

Subtitles

  • Subtitle track. Pick a track or switch subtitles off from the subtitle menu; J or V steps through the tracks.
  • Subtitle files. A file with the same name as the video loads by itself, and you can add one yourself: see add SRT subtitles.
  • Timing. Shift the subtitles earlier or later while the film keeps playing: subtitle sync.
  • A second subtitle track (AIX Pro) shows two languages at once: dual subtitles.

Speed and A-B repeat

  • Playback speed. Use More → Playback speed, or [ to slow down, ] to speed up and = to return to normal.
  • A-B repeat. Mark a start point (A) and an end point (B), and that section plays on a loop until you clear it. It is for learning a dance move, a guitar part or a line of dialogue; L is its key.
  • Both are free. The player controls page has the detail.

Picture

  • Picture fit and zoom. Choose how the picture fills the window, or zoom in; when zoomed, Shift and the arrow keys pan, and R resets zoom, pan and aspect ratio. See aspect ratio and zoom.
  • Brightness and contrast are free, as are deband (smooths colour banding) and deinterlace (on automatically for interlaced video).
  • Saturation, gamma, hue, HDR tone-mapping strength and the picture presets are AIX Pro. All of them: picture controls.
  • Snapshot. The camera button or S saves the current frame as a PNG or JPG in your snapshot folder.

Beyond the window

  • Fullscreen. F, or double-tap the video; Esc leaves it.
  • Picture-in-picture. Ctrl+Shift+P shrinks the film to a small window that stays on top while you work. Free. See picture-in-picture.
  • Cast. T, or the cast button, sends the video to a TV on your network: Chromecast, Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, LG, Samsung or a DLNA TV. Casting is AIX Pro, with a free allowance in the free app.
  • File info. The player shows available size, duration, resolution, frame rate, video codec and stream counts; the library’s File info also includes bitrate.

All of it from the keyboard

Almost everything above has a key, which is quicker than any menu once you know it. The keyboard shortcuts guide lists them all on one page, and Settings holds the defaults behind the controls: preferred languages, subtitle style, what happens when a video ends.

Every control, one reach away.

Tracks, subtitles, speed, A-B repeat, picture, sound, picture-in-picture and casting, on one screen.
