Resume, bookmarks and chapters

Three ways of not losing your place, for three different situations.

Resume, automatically

AIX saves per-video progress and resumes eligible positions when Playback starts is set to resume. Close a film halfway, open it a week later and it picks up at the same moment — and the library shows how far through each one you are.

Bookmarks you name

For a moment worth returning to — a scene, a passage, a step in a tutorial — drop a named bookmark and jump straight back to it later. Far more precise than scrubbing from memory.

Chapters, where the file has them

Disc rips and well-made files carry chapter marks. Where they exist you can jump between scenes directly instead of hunting along the timeline.

Looping a section with A–B repeat

For practising something, this is more useful than either. Set two points and the film loops between them continuously, so a phrase in another language or a technique in a tutorial repeats without you touching the timeline. Combined with reduced playback speed, it turns a film into something you can work with. A–B repeat and the other controls are on the player controls page.

Resume works per file, not per session

That distinction matters with a large collection. Saved positions are independent per video; eligible positions resume, while videos near the start or end reopen from the beginning. Nothing needs switching on and there is no list to maintain.

When bookmarks beat chapters

Chapters are placed by whoever made the file, which suits films and disc rips but leaves a recorded lecture or a screen capture with none at all. A bookmark is yours to place, which makes it the better tool for anything that did not come off a disc.
