Jellyfin is free, open-source media server software. It keeps your films and shows on a computer or NAS at home and organises them with posters and episode lists. AIX Player is a Windows app that signs in to that server and plays its library on your PC, so you do not have to copy the files or rebuild the library.
Connect AIX Player to Jellyfin
- Install AIX Player. Get it free from the Microsoft Store and open it.
- Open Media Servers and choose Jellyfin. Discovery runs automatically. Servers you have connected and servers AIX Player has found appear together.
- Sign in to your Jellyfin server. Enter your Jellyfin server address, username and password in the connection dialog.
- Browse and play. Open a film, or a show, season and episode, and play it on this PC in original quality or a server-converted one.
Your library as Jellyfin knows it
AIX Player shows the library your Jellyfin server already holds: posters, films, shows, seasons, episodes and playback progress, in the server’s own order. If you also run Emby or Plex, those servers sit on the same Media Servers page.
Original or server-converted quality
Original is the initial quality choice; AIX remembers a quality you deliberately choose for that server. If the original is too large for the connection or the device, choose a quality preset instead, and your Jellyfin server provides that version. The conversion is the server’s work, so the result depends on the server, the source and the network.
HDR from Jellyfin
HDR films from your Jellyfin server play on your PC like any other title. They count only against the media-server minutes described below, not the separate HDR allowance, and with AIX Pro both are unlimited.
Choose from the audio and subtitle tracks the server stream exposes; availability depends on the source and selected quality. HDR that reaches the Windows player uses the same display-aware output as other HDR video: HDR output on a compatible display with Windows HDR enabled, or tone mapping for an SDR display. Media-server HDR uses only the media-server allowance.
Can I cast Jellyfin videos to the TV?
Not in this version. Jellyfin videos play on your PC; casting them to a TV is not supported. You can still cast supported video files from your PC’s own drives or from a USB or SD drive.
Your sign-in stays on your PC
The connection is to the server you choose. Its sign-in token is encrypted by Windows for your user account and removed when you remove that connection. Your server can record progress or watched status under its own privacy policy. AIX Apps does not receive your server library or viewing history. Read the privacy policy.
Free minutes and AIX Pro
One allowance for media-server playback, once, not per session.
Pro removes the media-server time limit for Jellyfin, Emby and Plex.
Playing from Jellyfin uses the media-server allowance: the free app includes 180 minutes of media-server playback in total, once, not per session, and AIX Pro removes the limit. HDR video from a media server counts only against the media-server minutes, not the separate HDR allowance. Playing from network shares does not use these minutes.
