Emby Server keeps your films and shows on a computer or NAS and organises them with artwork and episode lists. AIX Player signs in to that server from Windows and plays what it holds on your PC. The library stays where it is: on the server.
Connect AIX Player to Emby
- Install AIX Player. Get it free from the Microsoft Store and open it.
- Open Media Servers and choose Emby. Discovery runs automatically. Servers you have connected and servers AIX Player has found appear together.
- Sign in to your Emby server. Enter your Emby server address, username and password in the connection dialog.
- Pick a title and a quality. Open a film or an episode. Original is the default; choose a server-converted quality when you need one, then play on this PC.
Original, or a quality converted on the server
Original is the initial quality choice; AIX remembers a quality you deliberately choose for that server. If the original is too large for the connection or the device, choose a quality preset instead, and your Emby server provides that version. The conversion is the server’s work, so the result depends on the server, the source and the network.
- Original suits a wired connection or good Wi-Fi at home: the file arrives as it is.
- A converted quality suits a weak connection or a very large source: the server sends a smaller version.
- Either way the video plays on your PC; the choice changes only what the server sends.
Shows, seasons and episodes
Posters, seasons, episodes and playback progress come from your Emby server, in its own order. If you also run Jellyfin or Plex, connect them on the same Media Servers page.
Choose from the audio and subtitle tracks the server stream exposes; availability depends on the source and selected quality. HDR that reaches the Windows player uses the same display-aware output as other HDR video: HDR output on a compatible display with Windows HDR enabled, or tone mapping for an SDR display. Media-server HDR uses only the media-server allowance.
Can I cast Emby videos to the TV?
Not in this version. Emby videos play on your PC; casting them to a TV is not supported. You can still cast supported video files from your PC’s own drives or from a USB or SD drive.
Your sign-in stays on your PC
The connection is to the server you choose. Its sign-in token is encrypted by Windows for your user account and removed when you remove that connection. Your server can record progress or watched status under its own privacy policy. AIX Apps does not receive your server library or viewing history. Read the privacy policy.
Free minutes and AIX Pro
One allowance for media-server playback, once, not per session.
Pro removes the media-server time limit for Jellyfin, Emby and Plex.
Playing from Emby uses the media-server allowance: the free app includes 180 minutes of media-server playback in total, once, not per session, and AIX Pro removes the limit. HDR video from a media server counts only against the media-server minutes, not the separate HDR allowance. Playing from network shares does not use these minutes.
