WebM, VP9 and VP8 files on Windows

AIX Player opens supported WebM files with VP8, VP9 or AV1 video and supported audio.

A format built for the browser

WebM was designed for web video, holding VP8 or VP9 video and Opus or Vorbis audio. Playback support depends on the browser or player and the codecs in the file.

Why VP9 matters

VP9 is one of the video codecs AIX decodes inside the app.

Playing them outside a browser

AIX Player decodes VP9, VP8, Opus and Vorbis itself, so a WebM opens like any other file — with proper seeking, playback speed control and the option to cast it to the television.

Check the audio too

AIX includes Opus and Vorbis audio decoders as well as supported WebM video decoders. If sound is missing, check volume, mute, track selection and the output device.

Long recordings and seeking

AIX supports seeking in seekable WebM files. Seek behaviour depends on the file and storage; playback-speed controls can shorten viewing time.

Casting a WebM to your television

Many televisions do not read WebM directly. AIX Player checks what the set accepts and converts unsupported parts while streaming. Supported Intel, AMD and NVIDIA graphics hardware can accelerate video conversion; on Qualcomm, only H.264 encoding is hardware-assisted, and other stages use the processor. You do not need to prepare a separate converted copy first.
